Instagram ads for course creators: a ₹500/day playbook
Know your break-even number, track sales properly, and give Meta three days before touching anything. A calm, small-budget way to start paid ads.

Ads don't create demand for a product nobody wants — they pour fuel on one that's already selling. So before spending a rupee, make sure your product has sold a few times through your own posts and DMs. Then use this playbook to scale it with a small, controlled budget.
Start with the only number that matters
Work out what you keep from each sale after fees. That is the most you can spend to get one buyer and still break even. If your course is ₹999 and you keep about ₹900, then a cost per purchase under ₹900 is profitable on day one — and anything you sell afterwards (an order bump, an upsell, your next product) is a bonus.
This is why order bumps matter for ads: a ₹199 add-on that one in four buyers takes raises your average order and lets you afford more expensive clicks.
Track purchases properly — browser and server
Since iOS privacy changes and ad blockers, the Meta Pixel alone misses a meaningful share of purchases. Meta then optimises on bad data and your costs go up. Send every purchase twice: once from the browser (Pixel) and once from your server (Conversions API), with the same event ID so Meta counts it once. On FunnelPe this is a pixel ID and an access token in Pixels & tracking; both are sent automatically on every paid order.
A simple structure
- One campaign, objective Sales, optimised for Purchase — not link clicks, not landing page views.
- Broad audience. Country India, age range that fits, no interests. Let the algorithm find buyers; your creative does the targeting.
- ₹500 a day, three to five different creatives in one ad set.
- Hands off for three or four days. Every edit restarts learning. Boring is good.
Creatives that work for creators
Polished brand videos usually lose to a person talking to the camera. What works:
- A hook in the first two seconds: the result, a surprising number, or the exact problem ("Your reels get 200 views? Here's why.")
- 15–30 seconds, vertical, with captions — most people watch muted
- Proof on screen: a student's message, a before/after, your dashboard
- Your natural language. If your audience speaks Hinglish, so should your ad
Make five rough creatives instead of one perfect one. You can't predict the winner; Meta can.
Send ads straight to the checkout page
Not to your Instagram profile, not to a link-in-bio page with eight buttons. Every extra tap loses people. The ad should land on a fast page that explains the product and lets them pay by UPI right there.
Reading results without panicking
Look at the whole path, top to bottom: click-through rate, cost per landing page view, checkouts started, purchases. Where the numbers drop tells you what to fix:
- Low click-through → the creative or hook isn't landing
- Clicks but few checkouts → the page doesn't convince (headline, proof, price)
- Checkouts but few purchases → friction at payment; check UPI works and the price isn't a surprise
A reasonable rule of thumb: once a creative has spent about twice your break-even cost without a sale, pause it.
Scaling calmly
When cost per purchase has been steady for a few days, raise the budget by 20–30% at a time, not double. Add new creatives every week or two, because winning ads fatigue. And switch on abandoned-checkout reminders on WhatsApp and email — people who started paying and got distracted are the cheapest sales you'll ever make.
